Creating Memories: A Winter Wonderland Extended Family Session

I recently had the absolute pleasure of reconnecting with Alicia at the Christmas Market, where she and her daughter were spreading holiday cheer as vendors. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the market, Alicia approached me with a heartwarming request: to capture their extended family once again.

Flashback to the beginning of my photography journey, where I had the honour of photographing Alicia's family for the first time. It was my first ever extended family session, filled with excitement and nerves. But Alicia's warmth and enthusiasm made it an unforgettable experience.

As we began planning the session, Alicia had a brilliant idea: why not host the photoshoot in the park, complete with an ice rink? I was instantly onboard with the idea, knowing it would not only result in beautiful family portraits but also create an unforgettable experience for all 15 members of the family.

And oh, were we blessed with the weather! On the day of the session, the air was crisp and frosty, casting a magical glow over the trees and offering breathtaking views of the Glenmore Reservoir. It was as if nature itself was conspiring to make our photoshoot absolutely perfect.

The session itself was an absolute blast. We kicked things off with lively group photos, capturing the joy and laughter shared among family members. A small break allowed us to warm up the little ones, ensuring everyone stayed cozy and comfortable throughout the session. Then, it was time to focus on capturing intimate portraits of each family unit, each one brimming with love and connection.

But the fun didn't stop there! With rosy cheeks and hearts full of excitement, kids and a few adults laced up their skates and glided across the ice, creating unforgettable memories against the backdrop of a winter wonderland. And what's a winter gathering without steaming mugs of hot chocolate shared by the crackling fire?

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the twinkling lights above the rink started to shine brighter, casting a magical glow over everything. In that moment, I couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude for experiences like these. This session wasn't just about snapping photos – it was a heartfelt celebration of family, love, and the enchanting beauty of winter.
